Make a reel by choosing parts, then refine those parts. Follow these actions in order for a first project. Use the separate interface reference whenever you need to identify a button or understand a setting.
On Home, choose Manual edit, then Choose videos first. For a photo or text story, choose Start empty and add an Empty source. Choose the reel's shape for its destination under View. You can use the included practice media through the guided introduction in Settings. Keep original files where the app can find them.

Open a video source and stay in Select. Tap a start on the filmstrip, press + beside the playhead, then tap the end. Repeat for each useful moment. Add part by time lets you enter precise source times, and dragging an edge trims a part. Select shows the original recording; Preview plays the parts you chose. Their durations and order determine what appears in the reel.

On a phone, the parts open as a sheet over the page: tap Show the parts panel. On a computer, the panel icon at the top right shows or hides them. Add to this source at the top of the panel adds a part by time or a hold part in Select, and a text or a photo in Preview.
Switch to Preview to watch the parts of this video with their edits. The parts list shows the playback order. Drag a numbered handle, or use Reorder parts, to move a part. Open a part's settings to edit just that part; Settings for all parts applies shared changes to the parts in this source. In the edit, Parts shows every part of the whole reel on its own row, so you can move one anywhere.

Open a video part's settings. Trim changes the source start and end. Frame sets the zoom, position, straightening, flips and crop, and can give every video the same frame. Filter and Adjust change the look; Underwater corrects a color cast when appropriate. Effect adds movement, an effect or a spotlight that can follow its own path. Volume changes this part's audio, and Speed changes its playback speed. Preview after each substantial change.

Open an unlocked video part's settings, choose Photo capture and switch it on. Set Capture at, or place the playhead inside the part and use Sync to playhead.
Select shows the original recording; the photograph uses this part's current framing and look. Open Custom frame, move the orange rectangle, drag a corner or enter the four crop edges, then choose Apply. Cancel keeps the previous crop. By default, 100% Size preserves the selected area's canvas size and position.
Set Flash duration, Flash strength and Hold duration; adjust Photo angle and the border. With settings open, pause during the hold in Preview and use the photograph's move and corner handles to position and resize it. Watch the flash, pause and return to motion.
The pause adds time to the same video part. Its source sound is silent during the pause; music continues. To use a photo already saved on your device, add it through the + menu as Standalone part or Overlay, as described in the photo step below.

In Preview, press + Add at the top of the parts panel (Add to this source) and choose Add text: Text opens with the default text selected, so you can type your words straight away. In Placement, Standalone part gives the text its own duration; Overlay puts it over the continuing picture without extending the reel. Overlay together shares the next overlay's time. Set Position, and use Crawl and Motion for animation. Steps appears for timing the crawl one row at a time. Color controls the background of a standalone text part.

In Preview, press + Add at the top of the parts panel (Add to this source) and choose Add image. Choose Standalone part for a timed photo in the sequence, or Overlay to show it over the continuing picture. Adjust Picture, Framing, Look and Effect; Color controls the background of a standalone image. Add text as a separate item when the photo needs a caption.

Choose Add, then Split. A split shows several videos in one frame. Pick a layout, then choose each cell's video and its parts on that video's own page. The cells play at the same time; the split lasts as long as its longest cell.

In the edit, open Music. Search by title or filter the library by category, length and availability. Play preview lets you listen to a track; + adds it to the reel. Included tracks work offline; other library tracks may need to be downloaded. You can also import an audio file. Open the music block to set when it starts and ends in the reel, where playback starts within the song, and its volume. Set fades in the main music panel. Adding the first track mutes source audio; raise the source or part volume if you want to mix it with the music.

In the edit, choose Audio and import a recording, such as a voice-over. It goes on its own lane for this reel only and never joins your music library. Move its block to where it should be heard, then open its settings to choose where playback starts within the recording and how loud it is.

Open the transition row between two parts. Preview choices in the gallery, pick one and set its timing, then confirm. Watch the join in context: a transition can hide a short action or text. Start and end treatments belong to the reel, while a join connects its neighboring parts.

In the edit, choose Theme on the tool rail, or in the ⋮ menu on a phone held upright. This sets the reel’s transition style. Interface colors are under Settings → Theme.
Watch the reel from beginning to end with sound. Check the first frame, every join, text readability, music and the ending. Save the editable project, then choose Export. Choose the size, quality and a format your device supports. Wait for completion and open the exported file to check it. Saving a project and exporting a video are different actions.

In a video's Select page, choose Export a frame. The frames around the playhead appear as pictures; pick the one you want and export it as a still image. Nothing in the reel changes.

Prefer an automatic first draft? Open Auto Reel, add your videos, choose a duration and music, then set pacing, ordering and analysis precision. The app analyzes the footage and music, checks scenes and image quality, arranges the parts and reviews the result. More footage, higher precision and underwater correction take longer to process. This can take several minutes; follow the progress shown on screen. Review and edit the resulting parts before exporting.
Open Settings → Cloud and connect Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox, or iCloud Drive on an iPhone, iPad or Mac. Saved projects and unsaved changes then upload by themselves, and the same account on another device opens them. Turn Videos in the cloud on to send the videos and photos as well, or leave it off and keep the footage on each device.
Sync is optional and uses your own account with Apple, Google, Microsoft or Dropbox; there is no FrameOSU account. FrameOSU asks each service for the narrowest access it offers. iCloud Drive is available on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
